The Biginning Was The Word…

Pass a good word along!

“In the beginning was the word…and the word was the beginning”  This phrase came to me as I pondered a Biblical text, “In the beginning was the word,” and the rest came from inspiration and experience.  How many times have you heard, “Watch your word,” and wondered what this mean?

I recall an occasion when I felt exhausted from working a string of 12 hours shifts, and said to someone, “I feel tired and sick.”   Lo and behold the next few minute I was curled up with a thick blanket in the blazing heat of the summer feeling feverish and sick!  “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones,” states the Bible.

How you speak to yourself and to/or about others could have a direct effect on you and the person.  They say words do carry powerful vibes that can influence a person’s life.  The oriental philosopher Buddha once said, “Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.”

A time ago while training for a half-marathon, I was attempting to run 8 miles, and said to myself, “I can’t!  I can’t!  I can’t do this.”  Guess what?  I didn’t.  It was not that I was exhausted or anything, but that 8 miles sounded kinda…long!  Two days later, I attempted the 8 mile run again.  At about mile-5 I  adopted a positive mantra given to me by my Paps, “I CAN,” which created a second wind which whisked me through, and I completed my goal.
